Oscar Hotties in Our Multipurpose Room

This year I loved the Oscar's because nobody spoke English, and the only people who did were gay or Jewish.

I watched all 5 billion hours of the Oscar's and two hours of Red Carpet chatter, because--Joan Rivers. Because Joan Rivers. Melissa Rivers looked sickly
as a brunette. Maggie looked better than usual in Proenza Schouler. Yahoo says Gwyneth was one of the "worst dressed," but I think she was all bijou in her Zac Posen apricot mermaid dress. On the red carpet, Jennifer Hudson's a great person but her silver shrug isn't. That winged thing belonged in a coven.

But objectively, who was the hottest--not including Ellen? Well, we were most pleased to see Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal in attendance. Ever since the Oscar's ended, I've been spending all my time at Home Depot so I can build a separate wing to house them. Famous people need homes too.
**
So we covered Oscar hotties, but what about "multipurpose"? Sigh, multipurpose beauty products. Well, besides the multi-purpose room I'm building for Diego Luna, I've found you can really use anything for anything.

Example #1: After applying eyeshadow, add an extra layer of sheen to the lids with a dab of Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm.

Example #2: You can use Nature's Gate chamomile shampoo to wash your delicate bra instead of Woolite.

Example #3: Not one to hype cheap moisturizer, but Lubriderm has been good to me this winter. If you wear a lot of base, Lubriderm's thick enough to really extract every inch of panstick and rouge. Odd but true. Odd but true.

That almost rhymes with Diego Luna.

Max Factor's "Spokesdiva" Carmen Electra & Vintage Vixen

So our unqualified admiration for Carmen Electra even causes us to wonder how and why we dig Carmen Electra so much.

Is is because she loves Grease 2 !!!!, collecting lingerie, and drinking Sex on the Beaches? All of the above, girlfriends. In my apartmentosphere, this basically makes her a celebrity patroned saint.

She's so over Dave Navarro, and we're into Max Factor Vintage Vixen, a shady trio of violets and moody blues. We've seen it on the shelf for a few months, but this weekend I couldn't resist. The Gov't recommends pairing this totally old school with a long dress in midnight blue or a dark mini-skirt.

Buy it: Max Factor Eyeshadow in Vintage Vixen ($4.65), Drugstores.

Dig It, Hide It, Steal It

Tonight Jose Rivera, head makeup artist was working his stuff on the Sephora Beauty Premiere on HSN (just killing time before the O.C.'s final episode, since Ugly Betty was on pause)....anyhow, he was demonstrating the Make Up Forever 5 Camouflage Concealer palette.

Instead of dipping his hand into the palette and applying it to the face directly, Mr. Rivera gently blends the different shades together in the palm of his hand. I know, it's not exactly brain surgery, but the results speak for themselves. By blending on the palm of your hand, you can achieve a truer tone to your natural skin color, and warming up the makeup as always can deliver a smoother application.
Also, Jose had a significantly impeccable manicure. What hands! Sephora, applause!

If the $36 is too steep, a budget-friendly alternative is Physicians Formula Concealer 101. I have two of these on-hand for when my face gets a little red and my "better" makeup is swallowed by a missing handbag. The green part is good as an emergency backup concealer layer, especially if you rub some moisturizer into the green before the application. Since this palette is fairly dry, a generous amount of any natural skin-toned concealer over the Physician's Formula green will work. No martians allowed!

Buy it: Make Up Forever 5 Camouflage Concealer palette ($36.00), HSN (currently free shipping and handling) or Sephora; Physician's Formula Concealer ($6.95), drugstore.

Zac Posen: Berry Effective Pouts

At NY Fashion Week, Zac Posen's shift to darker tones was a surprise, but he won us over with his sophisticated take on glamour girl "mermaid" dresses, cut for the Oscar's, and this awesome ruffled apricot outfit.

The Zac Posen makeup palette was "berry" on the lips and applied lightly Mac's Laid Back BlushCreme across the cheekbones. Charlotte Tilbury, their makeup artist, applied (90% sure on this) a dramatic coat of Mac Satin Taupe eyeshadow all around the eye, and filled in brows with Mac Lingering Eye Brows eye pencil. On the lips, you will see Ruby Woo Lipstick and Media Lipstick for delectable lips.

Berry, berry nice.

Also, if you need a tan, check out the EG review of GlowFusion Airglow gun.

Buy it: Laid Back Blushcreme ($17.50), Mac; Satin Taupe Eyeshadow ($14.00), Mac; Mac Eye Brow pencil in Lingering ($13.50), Mac; Lipstick in Ruby Woo and Media ($14.00 each, and sizzling), Mac;

Saint Valentine Mailbox

Dear St. Valentine:

How can I celebrate a day devoted to love, in a world torn asunder by violence and unrest? What lover should I choose to pluck rose petals for me to sleep on? If I get stuck in a horrible blizzard, who will restore my mane to its natural beauty? What eyeshadow should I wear tonight?

Saint Valentine: "If your sweetheart is too upset about the world for romance, stir them up with a cup of Castillian hot cocoa using Dagoba cocoa powder. (They support ecological wildlife corridors in the rainforest.)

Choose the one who is best at plucking roses for you.

If your hair is all crazy from snowstorms or blow dryers, dab a nickel or two of Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme into the palms of your hands, rub them together, and apply evenly.

"Eye" see a dilemma, mainly involving terrible puns? Anyhoo. Try on the new Mac Sultress eyeshadow quad because the smokin' "Aria" shade (bottom left-hand corner) will look fab-u across your eyelid and blended along the brow bone."

Look there, now see. The world is a better place already.

Atoosa Out, Seventeen In

Atoosa, Atoosa, Atoosa. Seventeen seems better than ever now that she's left.

For one, they have instructions on Sienna Miller-type braids and a magical diagram of Beyonce's face.

Magazine Scoop

In the lastest issue of InStyle, we learn that America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty") keeps pretty by washing her face with Mario Badescu Strawberry Face Scrub and then dabbing on Kiehl's lip balm.

Also, it says in Us Weekly, that Jennifer Morrison, the female doctor on House, uses Epicuren Facial Emulsion this winter. The apricot oils protect the skin and House's Nielsen ratings. (Mean doctors, hooray!)

For more winter skin regimen tips, check out this excellent interview on Product Perfect with, no offense to the TV, like a real doctor.

Buy it: Mario Badescu Strawberry Face Scrub ($15), select retailers; Epicuren Facial Emulsion ($26).
