New York Fashion Week Beauty: Natural Pleasures

These two models at NYFW Fall 2012 collections have very simple, alluring makeup looks. At Ralph Lauren, Redken consultant Guido Paolo pulled hair back into stylish ponytails. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux gave the Ralph models a very natural face that allowed their distinctive features to shine.

A smudge of grey eyeshadow make this model's blue eyes pop.

Also, a bit of Eyeshadow Government advice: To get skin that looks fresh and young in the wintertime, apply moisturizer before washing your face. Avène Cleanance soapless gel cleanser is great for all skin types. Then, after washing your face, apply more moisturizer and pure rose hip seed oil for brighter, luminous skin.

Model at Jill Stuart Fall 2012 runway show.

At Jill Stuart, the girls had folk singer hair with their high fashion looks.  Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too? Stuart cited Nick Cave's lovers as an influence for the show, although I respectfully decline to name them. (Because I worship them.) Beautiful, wavy tresses with a slightly rough edge by French hairstylist Odile Gilbert complimented the designer's ensembles. Also, off topic, I suppose it is a bit funny that at New York Fashion Week, models are groomed to appear messy, but I think there truly is an art to this work.

Most of the models rocked purple eyelids, but this model's eye makeup appears more grey. To recreate this smoky eye look, simply brush Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Slate across your lids and with a thin brush, line the shadow all along your lower lid as well. Skip lipstick and just dab on Carmex to make your lips appear plump.

Air kisses to all my readers! Take a lesson from these beauty looks and remember, you look amazing just the way you are.

Rodarte Fall 2012 Makeup Look

Rodarte! Lead makeup artist James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics conceived dreamy beauty looks for the Rodarte Fall 2012 fashion show. This show is always one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week.

On the face, the makeup team used NARS sheer glow foundation, NARS bronzing powder in Laguna and blush in Madly. The makeup team also applied NARS blush in Gaiety on the outer corner of the eyes. I adore the sweep of hot pink on the outer corners of the eyes. This look took my breath away.

Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy said, “We were inspired by Australia for this collection.
We wanted to reference Aboriginals, the outback, and the Dust Bowl,
along with a Victorian reference and bring them together in a rugged way.”

Alice + Olivia Presentation Fall 2012 Video

Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet presentation video, courtesy of moi...it was more like a party than a show. Champagne flowed and everyone was eating Magnum ice cream bars. I met Johnny Weir who looked pleased as punch to be the party, modeling a shiny outfit and flashing his diamond-strewn wedding ring. I also met the oldest Jonas brother but didn't recognize him. Oops! Hearts to you anyway.

Off to Cocktails With Toni Braxton and Nigel Barker

I'm running out the door now. But have you heard of SheKnows Where the Other Sock Went? Toni Braxton is the face of this important campaign to raise awareness for autism and tonight, I'm attending an event for this very cause. Project Runway designer Michael Costello has sewed a dress using "720 socks and counting," according to the promo video, and Braxton is going to wear this ensemble tonight in New York.

In May, the "sock dress" will go to auction with all proceeds benefiting the non-profit foundation Autism Speaks. As Toni Braxon's music was a soundtrack to my life and plenty of middle school dances, I'm excited...in fact, I have to put on my own dress now. Nigel Barker of America's Next Top Model is due to make an appearance as well at the party. Jealous?

Air kisses,
Annie W.

Br-a-a-a-a-d

Just felt like saying his name that way....

Brad Goreski shared his Valentine's Day fashion "thoughts" with Lucky magazine and suggested a good gift for the "fashion guy" is "something stylish and timeless – like cufflinks or a watch.” These cufflinks were featured in Lucky's  blog post about la BFG (Brad Friendly Goreski or Big Fashionable Giant).

I also was thinking about this question today and if you truly have a fashion-forward boyfriend, you could buy him something kind of unisex that you could wear too. After all, when you dump him, you'll need a souvenir. Boyfriends are ephemeral. Fashion is forever.
