Yoohoo and TGIF

Well, I'm barely surviving my 14 hours days at Columbia grad school.
Hopefully my life will calm down. I wish I could solve my schedule
with cute needlepoint accessories like these from Jonathan Adler
or a time machine. I hear the gym has a nice sauna...

Also, now through August 31st, Jonathan Adler is donating 10% of all proceeds to earthquake relief in Peru.

Hair Apparent: Is There Such a Thing as a Bargain Haircut?

Question of the day: should you sign up for a bargain haircut offered by Aveda hairdressers-in-training or other similar establishments?

In NYC and other major cities, often upscale hair salons offer free or discount haircuts if you use one of their trainees. But in Brooklyn, we say, fuggedaboutit.

If you haven't seen the work of the person lopping at your ponytail, be wary. I have seen many excellent results from my friends' visits to Bumble & Bumble trainees, but Bumble & Bumble is the exception to the rule.

Yesterday at the Aveda salon, my roommate just asked a student to dye her hair lighter, and they bleached her Pamela Anderson blonde (see diagram to left) with streaks of green. Fuming, she marched home and expertly dyed it back to brown with her two gloved hands.

Don't be had! And if you're broke and a bit punk rock, you're probably better off snipping here and there on your own. (Feel free to contradict me on this one.)

L L.A.M.B. Fragrance By Gwen Stefani

You can't knock a rainbow. L L.A.M.B. fragrance by Gwen Stefani is on the shelves now, and I'm dying to get a whiff of it. I'll let you know later this week whether it really smells like "green notes," pears, and frangipani.

ShopVogue.TV Launches Tonight Midnight

Vogue's latest business enterprise ShopVogue.TV is at the vanguard of designer shopaholic-ism, where the advertisements come to life. Put another way, it's the virtual equivalent of a rotating sushi cart with our name on it.

Among its offerings, the new website showcases "behind the scenes" fashion week videos from Chloé, Shalom Harlow looking beautiful, and a video about creating the David Yurman's print advertising campaign. As various items pop up in the videos, a screen to the right eithers leads viewers to a site where they purchase the item immediately online or the exact shop name so you can purchase it in a real store. Walls. Salespeople. Yeah.

The shopping focus is designer fashion, so we were so, so, so glad to see $6 Maybelline lip gloss in Rhinestone Pink, not just $800 frocks. Whew!

What else?...Like MySpace, the "Share" section is intended for users to express themselves in various states of chic by posting personal snapshots online. The world will adore you soon enough--pinky's swear!

As a last word, if they don't mention Eyeshadow Government soon, expect me to post a photo of a tear streaking down my face. Jk.

Check it all out here.

Forget-me-not, ;-)

If You Can, See Beyoncé

Beyoncé will appear noon tomorrow at Macy's Herald Square to promote the launch of Emporio Armani Diamonds, her new fragrance. As much as I would love to meet Beyoncé, pop scion and more, I do have one other pressing obligation.

I'll tell you the important thing preventing me from seeing Beyoncé soon enough. It's such a good secret, I'm practically exploding.

So....if any of you happen to see Beyoncé wading in a puddle of Emporio Armani fragrance, please tell me all about her. Love that woman.

Who and what: Beyoncé + perfume + diamonds...
When: August 16th, Thursday at noon.
Where: Macy's Herald Square, 151 West 34th Street, New York, NY in the splendid Perfume Arcade section.

Interview with Beyonce about Armani

Much love also to Lumiere Cosmetics' Veena blushes, they put the apples back in the cheeks. Finally, I adore Barry M's Dazzle Dust, which look happily like the Erth shadows, but can only be had from across the pond. They shimmer and sparkle and turn into amazingly tenacious shadows when mixed with a wee bit of water. Like Mac Pigments, without the Mac price.

Red Lobster

I guess all my talk of sunscreen didn't convince me that I needed to reapply sunblock after my afternoon swim. This was a big mistake, and I'm hurting for it.

You can meet my new amigos....they say aloe-ha.
(I know--bad joke! Sorry!)

Vintage Kate Moss

I did some yoga this morning alongside the Russian River. Maybe Kate Moss would be happier if she did yoga or stretched more, like in her Calvin Klein youth.

Get Kate's 90's look with a heavy sweep of blush along the cheekbone and black cotton basics. With a large blush brush, try out i.d. bareMinerals Blush Compatibles in "Escape/Lovely":

Bright Eyes

In this month's Lucky magazine, makeup artist Paula Dorf recommends applying peach eye pencil to perk up tired eyes.

Or if you have a peachy eyeshadow, like the middle one in this Pop Eye Class makeup kit, you can also use a dampened eyeliner brush or q-tip to line your eyes with the powder for a similar effect.

Buy it:: Paula Dorf Eye Pencil in Enhancer ($18), Paula Dorf; Pop Eye Class eyeshadow kit ($32), Sephora.

Sucking, Sucky, Sucky Summer

As a recap of the last 14 days:

1. Quit job
2. Boyfriend breaks up with me
3. Pack for California in suitcase with broken zipper
4. Repack suitcase
5. Board on plane with no makeup on
6. Make list about shitty 14 days on plane
7. List does not make it better

At the moment, I'm on a plane drinking coffee with I'm pretty sure no boyfriend, no job, and no makeup. To make matters worse, I see next season's hot new item is the short-sleeved coat--seriously, WTF (are they trying to give us pneumonia?)--and cute high-heeled oxfords, which won't fit me because my arches are deranged.

When I land, I'll have 2 days to catch up with all my left coast pals--pat my friend's newborn baby on the head, say 'hi' to my old roommates--before chuting to Monte Rio on California's Russian River. Upon helicoptering by car to Monte Rio, I plan on swimming upstream like a salmon to the local bar and wallowing in some bourbon-miniskirt combo. The rest of the time I expect to lay out like a beached dolphin with no purpose but to wear bikinis, sadly.

From my window seat, the clouds remind me of all the popcorn and coconut ice cream I should be eating for "good cheer." Alas....

Inside My River Tote Bag

Striped green bikinis from Target fit perfectly, even in hard times.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70 with patented Helioplex (TM) technology protects against UVA and UVB rays.

And Hot Fall Items

If you want to go short-sleeved in the early part of fall, this brown one (on model, second from the left) by Vera Wang's new line for Kohl's is quite tempting!

Made by Elves Oxford Heel for stomping.

the world gives back to me in different locations.

On Elle.com, they offer advice on how to look like Bianca Jagger. Hot.

Droll Babbling and Rehydrating!

Doonan on the Internet

All things Simon Doonan being absolutely exquisite, we had to direct you to his latest “Barney’s Babble.” The “Barney’s Babble” is the weekly Barney’s newsletter, except it’s like a personal e-mail from Simon Doonan to you telling you to buy very beautiful things. Click here.
You might appreciate the Madonna theme of his message, and jewelry like these earrings from Barney’s.

Next discussion point: things for my hands when I type.

With the A/C going full blast at el job-o-mat, you and I both might be battling air condition, arch-enemy of dewy skin. In comes to the rescue, Yonder and Green Rose-Lavender Face Cream. This moisturizer saved my pretty fingers and licked that air conditioner with its lethal combination of rose and grapeseed oil.

Buy it: Cassis Rubra Earring ($950) by Lucifer vir Honestus, Barneys; Yonder and Green Rose-Lavender Face Cream ($35), Yonder and Green.
