It's the most wonderful time of the year...but it would be nice if I didn't have to wear an enormous coat every day. Just keeping it real. Happy holidays!

Anyhoo, Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all my readers and rock on. Many of you are celebrating the holidays and I hope none of you are stressing out about it. I realize though that the age old question arises, what shall I wear that will be appropriate for the holidays? Lately, my blog has been touting bright pink lipstick and I encourage you to continue your journey of self-expression through makeup, fashion, reading and having fun with friends.

Still, I was thinking that if you are dating someone and meeting the parents for the first time at a holiday event, it might be appropriate to retire makeup shades that can be seen from a mile away (electric pink lipstick! neon blue eyeshadow!) and opt for classier shades.

My "appropriate" makeup solution: Wear Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in La Raffine. It's so Park Avenue, it makes me forget I live in Brooklyn. There's never a second chance for a first impression.

SKINCARE REMINDER: Also, don't forget to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize and wear sunblock. This weather does horrors to the skin and I see dry, dead-looking faces all over the subway trains. Sometimes I go shopping for pleasure, but there are other times I go shopping because it's an emergency. I bought this top in a shop in Queens because I was wearing a silk dress (having just attended an event at the Plaza) and thought it was going to rain. I had convinced myself the blouse was long enough to double as a dress (a case of wishful thinking), but the heavens were kind and it didn't drizzle. The next day, I put this top on and just loved it. It's covered in intricate, henna-like patterns and has an interesting trim.

The devil is in the details: folkloric patterns thrill me.

Some necklaces belong on the necks of cool girls, and this is one of them. This Marc by Marc Jacobs collar necklace screams "take me!" (just like that, you got it). If you're an Angeleno, you could wear this puppy with a ripped black t-shirt and denim jeans. As for New Yorkers, what about donning this kitschy, wild bauble with your best little black dress and red plastic (or vintage mother of pearl) eyeglasses? Finish the look with a dab of lip gloss.

THE COTILLARD GOES WILD: In a new video for Dior, Marion Cotillard appears in a campy spoof of life in LA. Cotillard plays an actress named Margaux who says she wants to get out of showbiz. In the short video, a wardrobe lady assures her a hat is "the very latest in fallen palm fronds, cruelty-free, everyone's doing it" and another character gripes, "Do I have to speak klingon to get something done around here?" This may be the first Star Trek mention in a Dior marketing tactic, ever...and possibly the last. By the way, love the lipstick. Love the eye makeup. Love the accessories. Love everything. A Maybelline event I attended this week in Manhattan was a feast for the eyes, lips and face. The brand showcased dozens of new, everyday products in easy-to-wear shades, as well as many bold and trendy beauty items that will appeal to fashion-forward gals.

As someone who frequently purchases high-end beauty products, I was impressed by the range and exceptional quality of Maybelline's latest makeup items. (The items discussed in this post will be sold to the public in January. So sit tight!) This article reviews two new Maybelline makeup products I am majorly obsessed with and can't live without, and I'll talk about a few more next week.

DREAM BOUNCY CHEEKS

For girls who like makeup that looks very natural, Maybelline Dream Bouncy Cheeks blush is a must-have. The blush offers a sheer wash of beautiful color. To apply, just dab the color along your cheeks for a healthy, just-went-on-a-walk glow. The effect is colorful and radiant.

Paint by Numbers: Holiday Smoky Eye Makeup Look + Video

Today, I am going to talk about a smoky eye makeup look you can achieve in ten minutes using the Bobbi Brown Cool Party Eye Palette (sold at Sephora and BobbiBrown.com). The texture of these shadows is silky and luxurious like a good mink coat. Get purr-fect eyes today!

First, apply the Iced Blue Metallic shadow across the eyelids (see #1 in the photo). This shade is also very pretty and you can wear it alone during the daytime. Believe me, you won't be alone for long.

Then, use Gunmetal Shimmer Wash shadow(#2 in the photo) to softly line the top part of your eyelids along the lash line, but not the bottom. You can use the shadow brush that comes with the palette because the line can be blurry. Smudge the colors a touch with your fingers. Sweep the Gunmetal Shimmer shade inside the crease of your lid for extra depth.

Next, apply the darkest shade in the palette, Onyx Sparkle (#3), as a liner for the top outer corner of your eyes. Add a smidgeon to the bottom outer corner of your lash line too.

Finally, using a brush, gently line your inner bottom lash line with the White shadow (#4). This will make you look rested and gorgeous.

Top off your party-ready smoky eye look with sparkling hair accessories and a neutral lipstick. You are beautiful!

Fabulous Friday Night

Looking for a hot look to warm up your weekend? As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been mixing more luxurious beauty products with drugstore finds to create "high-low" looks. Here is round two. Rev her up!

All Eyes On You

1. Dab Bobbi Brown creamy concealer ($22) under the eye and on eyelids to create a fresh palette for your makeup.

2. Then, quickly and generously dab on Jouer Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Sable ($22, Jouercosmetics.com). This look-at-me eyeliner is a shimmering, golden aubergine that compliments every skintone. If you are new to liquid eyeliner, apply this in little strokes and just smudge the liner if it strays too far.

Glowing Cheekbones

3. With a blush brush, dust Milani Cosmetics Baked Bronzer in Golden ($8.99, Duane Reade) across your cheekbones. This will give you a healthy, movie star glow in an instant.

4. Then, blend a dab of pink cheek color, such as Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Dusty Rose, over the Milani bronzer to make the look even better. Be fearless!

Luscious Lips

5. Finish with L'Oreal Project Runway lipstick (um, yay!) in Audacious Amazon's Pout. Press this fuchsia beauty hard into your lips and then wipe most of the product off with a tissue for a gorgeous lip stain. The result will be stunning.

Terax Delicato Shampoo and Crema Conditioner Reviews

I tested my Terax Delicato Classic shampoo and Terax Crema Ultra Moisturizing conditioner for the first time today, and perhaps you should too. The Terax shampoo has a gentle, fresh scent that isn't overpowering. After leaving the Terax conditioner on for about 7 minutes, my tangled up mane felt as smooth as a hair commercial. The conditioner is my favorite.

These natural, sulfate-free products totally cleaned up my hair and gave it a "chill" look. My hair is often frizzy, not that there's anything wrong with this, but I think the conditioner really helped minimize frizz. After a spree of cleaning and decorating at my new apartment (moved just 6 blocks!), a great hair day is icing on the cake.

Pink Confections: Beauty Tutorial

Is foxy your middle name? Don't be afraid to answer this question because the only response I will accept is "yes"!

This week, I have been mixing upscale, luxury products and drugstore finds to create new beauty looks. This beauty look "Pink Confections" is great for a night out with your girlfriends or a funky, daytime look.

FACE

While I am on the hunt for a new "favorite" liquid foundation, I have been using drugstore concealer mixed with moisturizer as a replacement. Weird, right? Well, it's a lot like buying orange juice in the freezer aisle and adding water. As long as I first prime my skin with moisturizer and apply concealer sparingly and evenly with my fingertips, it looks like normal foundation.

My affordable Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer for Eyes (roughly $7!) works great layered over a healthy dose of moisturizer. Before applying concealer though, I have been pampering my face with high-end oxygenating skin creams or basic Body Shop Aloe Soothing Day Cream ($16). I love how the concealer is very lightweight but offers a lot of coverage in "problem" areas. (Other recommended drugstore concealers are Revlon Photoready Concealer, $9, and Iman Second to None Cover Cream, $13.)

So once your face is prepped, we'll talk about lips.

LIPS

No smile is complete without fabulous lip color. If you are in the market for an upscale lipstick, I recommend Dior Addict lipstick in Model ($28, Sephora). Maybe the name Model appeals to my vanity (ack! blush!) or fashion nerdiness (deep passions!), but the sheer wash of pink is angelic and suits me quite well. A makeup artist working for the Dior team recommended this shade to moi. Other Dior lip shades you might like are Granville, Couture and Stiletto.

EYES

Next, apply Revlon Expressionists Starry Pink eye shadow, designed by Gucci Westman. Always apply eye primer on eyelids first to keep glittery shadow, and then dab the shadow evenly across eyelids with the applicator. Add more for a night out, and less for daytime. I am in love with this shade, which reminds me of glittery druzy stones and happy birthday parties.

On Display at the Soirée: Maybelline / Patrick McMullan Party

Do you love me more? Are you jealous of my existence?

Last week, I hoofed it to a Maybelline / Patrick McMullan party. The party, held at the Dream Hotel downtown, celebrated the 40th anniversary of Great Lash mascara and McMullan's PMc magazine launch. Rain threatened to destroy my vaguely decently assembled hairdo, but I arrived in sparkling condition to the event where many of the people you see in fashion magazines and the social pages (and want to know) were assembled. Patrick's crowd was quite amusant. Champagne swirled! I had a fabulous time and piled on my best clothing (Jil Sander, etc.) for the occasion.

Cameron Silver, owner of Decades, and I had a little tête à tête, and he invited me to his extraordinary vintage shopping event the next day at the Lisa Perry boutique across from the Carlyle. We also chatted about his YSL couture collection...e-n-v-y...and the difference between LA and SF. He is so debonair and charming. Adore!

Also, the designer Rod Keenan showed off his sumptuous hat. I asked him for one of his $1,100 hats, but no dice! Instead, he gave me a pencil with his name on it. Maybe next time, Rod?

Let's just say I was having so much fun that when I saw an advertisement on the subway with the words "Prohibition Is Coming" (for the PBS series), I worried for a moment. No more champagne?

As for some beauty tidbits.... if you are looking to switch up your skincare routine, I highly recommend Amala Purify Blue Lotus Gel Cleanser ($30, sold at ABC Carpet and Home and Amalabeauty.com). This natural cleanser is excellent for all skin types, including sensitive or breakout-prone skin. Ingredients like blue lotus and green tea extract help nourish the skin, while white clay draws out impurities. You will look like a knockout.

What else? Yes! I was reading that L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hair Spray is the best. They say the more you use, the better you look.

Chanel Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Finale + Hair Tutorial

Too fantastic at Chanel! Here's a few quick tips on how to recreate those fab, romantic Chanel coiffures in Paris today.

1. Apply mousse to dry, straightened hair and comb meticulously from the top of the head to the ends. I used lots of Arrojo Styling Whip on dry hair and can attest this works. This decadent beauty product is packed with argan oil for added shine and moisture.

2. Allow the Arrojo Styling Whip to set in for a few minutes. For extra texture, rub a dollop of Wella Professional Pearl Styler in Dry into the hair too. (The Pearl Styler typically creates a matte finish, but the argan oil in the Arrojo Styling Whip negates this effect.) Comb once more and allow the products to set into the hair and dry thoroughly.

3. If your hair is short, skip step three. If you hair is long, pull hair into a pony tail, secure with an elastic band and twist together two sections of the hair to create a fancy, mussed bun. (There is no right or wrong way to do it!) Use bobby pins to secure the bun.

4. Next, add Bumble and bumble Brilliantine cream for glistening, camera-ready sparkle.

5. To finish the look, models in Chanel wore pearls in their hair. Apply simple pearl hair pins to look like you just walked off the runway.

Beauty Look: Christian Dior Spring / Summer 2012

Makeup and hair at Christian Dior was blissfully jolie. Romantic, elegant and refined, the models looked like they could have stepped out of a Sargent painting.

1. To recreate this look, just wash hair and blow dry using a round brush. Apply a touch of Bumble and bumble Grooming Cream while hair is still damp to reduce flyaways.

2. Then, gently fold hair on the left and right sides, securing with bobby pins if necessary. (Girls with layered hair may need a few extra bobby pins. If your hair is very long in the front and back, you may be able to skip the pins.)

3. Roll and fold hair in the back of the head, pushing the hair forward and down. Secure with bobby pins.

4. Finish the look with a strong red lip, such as Dior Addict lipstick in Red Carpet, and black mascara.

This Pierre Balmain Spring / Summer 2012 video is too fabulous. A final cut of the video will premiere at the Pierre Balmain presentation on Sunday in Paris.

Model Abbey Lee Kershaw and her band Our Mountain take a trip through Brooklyn. They dangle on the stairway at the Hewes Street subway station, run down gritty streets, and take in a view of Manhattan at the waterfront. With mussed hair and pale lips, Abbey Lee appears effortlessly sexy in various fashions.

Top makeup artist Pat McGrath blended two Dolce & Gabbana lip shades to achieve the perfect color for actress Scarlett Johansson, who sat front row at the Spring 2012 Dolce & Gabbana runway in Milan.

BEAUTY TIPS

To reduce smudging, apply Maybelline Great Lash mascara to your bottom lashes first, and then do your top lashes.

Also, when you do your makeup, you can apply mascara first, lipstick second and blush third. Black mascara adds instant drama, so you will find that you can wear a touch less blush or a more neutral lipstick than you would without it.

Splendid Day by the Seaside

During the hottest weeks, wearing pounds of makeup is, for once, something that doesn't interest me. Isn't there a cabana somewhere with my name on it? I'm off to the beach in an hour!

Dior Addict Lipstick in Granville.

To prep for my happy beach trip, I am going to slather on St. Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan for Body moisturizer ($30, Sephora) and waterproof sunblock. A salesperson at Sephora recommended the St. Tropez product. Perhaps he divined some snowy limbs were hiding underneath those black jeans? I suppose it doesn't take X-ray vision to guess my legs appear roughly as pale as ice cubes. Anyhoo, I should have begun applying the St. Tropez Gradual Tan moisturizer on Friday night. (Better late than never!)

Also, I am going to wear Chanel lipstick to the ocean, and no one can stop me. Another great lipstick to sport by the seaside: Dior Addict's Granville #621, in an enticing beige shade. If you have never heard of Granville, it's a French seaside town where the late couturier Christian Dior spent his childhood. Should you find yourself passing through the area, you could catch the exhibit "Dior, le Bal des Artistes" at his family home, now a museum, where there is also a lovely area to drink tea and look out onto the ocean.

Hello darlings,

So I just wanted to confirm (as promised) that the "Goya look" I mentioned yesterday is totally attainable and yes, it's a-okay to put pink powder all over your face.

I went to Sephora today to double-check my strong hunch that sweeping blush from your cheekbone down to your jawline and to your ear is cool. (And I don't mean in an Eighties cool way, but in a genuinely pretty way.) The key is to choose a blendable, extremely sheer shade. If you can find a color that is barely noticeable on your skin, then that's the right one.

Two products that I recommend are Smashbox Soft Lights in Prism ($28) and Benefit's Dandelion Face Powder ($28). You can dust the color all over, only leaving the area above your lip and nose bare. The look is angelic and beautiful. For a more pronounced effect, you can add a pinch of Smashbox blush in Heartbreak, which is a bit darker, or your regular favorite blush to the apples of your cheeks too.

Goya-Geous Is the New Gorgeous

I went to The Frick Collection today, and one of the Goya portraits gave me some new thoughts on blush. If you have been applying blush to your cheekbones, don't be afraid to dust a little more across your entire face. I have to try this out tomorrow night, but I think that if you use swirl a pale pink blush from your cheekbone down to your jawline, it's cool. Goya is down for it. This goes against conventional wisdom, and yet this technique might look even better than leaving this area of your skin bare or covered in foundation.

Mix it up! Be Goya-geous!

New York Times Mentions Eyeshadow Government

Everyone's talking about E.G.

While I could pretend to be blasé about the New York Times writing about Eyeshadow Government, it's just too much work. I am telling everyone I know. Eyeshadow Government recently joined the Lucky Style Collective, a new super-cool initiative from the editors of Lucky magazine (hearts times three), and the NYT took note.

While London is in tailspin (Murdoch blah blah blah and terrible thing about Amy Winehouse), all is peaceful chez moi in New York. My hand is streaked from testing eyeliners (always on the hunt for you, my dear readers), and the most troubling question I have is not so upsetting at all. When the temperature rises above 88, is it still socially acceptable to wear perfume? I can't decide. Deep questions!

Last Friday, I went to a market appointment to sniff some Serge Lutens perfumes and look at other notions, so stay tuned for more posts. Also, a recent foray to Barneys yielded a stunning makeover. Expect details about this too soon!

Lost & Found: Complete Collection of FLAIR Magazines

A Balmain gown created specially for the May 1950 Rose issue of Flair.

To escape the heat yesterday, I popped into Open Air Modern on Lorimer St. and noticed two issues of Flair magazine in the middle of the shop. The owner Matt Singer, who doesn't care much for fashion himself, showed me he has a complete vintage set of the famous magazine, which was only published between 1950 to 1951. (He is selling the set for $500.)

While it's fine and dandy to see this fashion magazine reproduced in a set by Rizzoli, the experience is not the same as touching the original pages. It takes a bit of doing for a magazine to move me so, but I was bouleversée.

The legendary magazine founded by Fleur Cowles published all that was glamorous and great. But the expensive cost of producing a magazine with die-cut covers, unusual elements like invisible ink typeface, and other out-of-this-world features shortened the title's lifespan. The art direction and style was very inventive for its time, and Cowles hired René Gruau to be the magazine's illustrator. John O'Hara, Auden, Cocteau, and Tennessee Williams all contributed pieces.

As a woman who wore an uncut emerald ring the size of Niagara Falls, perhaps budget was not always top of mind. Speaking to Time magazine in 1949, Cowles said, "I've worked hard, and I've made a fortune, and I did it in a man's world, but always, ruthlessly, and with a kind of cruel insistence, I have tried to keep feminine."

In the May 1950 Rose issue of Flair, there is a layout with a beautiful Balmain gown commissioned especially for the issue and another with elegant women wearing the latest fashions but arranged uniquely alongside photographs of long-stem roses. There are other unusual articles about how businesswoman decorate their table settings with flowers and a page advertising "the newest rose in the world," named Flair. Ingenious, no? "Its color is a rosy coral, its bloom abundant and vigorous," the copy reads.

Cowles threw birthday parties for Queen Elizabeth, appears in the letters of Paul Bowles and Noel Coward, painted surrealist animal pictures, traveled the world, married not three but four times, and maintained her sense of style during her later years. Wouldn't you have loved to be her?

If you have been glorying in the sun (which you shouldn't be doing anyway) and have a fresh tan (despite wearing sunblock at all times - yes, it's like looking both ways before crossing a street), it's that special time of year to get a new foundation to match your skin's new color.

If your tan tends to fade quickly, you might want to buy two different darker shades: one for your current color, and a second foundation for the color you skin might be in a week or two.

Revlon ColorStay Aqua mineral makeup is a great option if you're on a budget. Other solid picks are Jane Iredale Amazing Base Mineral Foundation and Cargo Oil Free Foundation.

Product Review: MyFaceWorks Collagen Boosting Mask

Happy Friday! I received a sample pack of MyFaceWorks masks a while ago, and finally found time to unleash the powers of...the mask.

I felt like quite the caped crusader and sort of like a mummy too whilst sitting around my apartment this afternoon.

First, you cut open a rectangular packet and inside is a face-shaped silk sheet drenched in a beautifying serum. Unfold the MFW sheet, remove the plastic layer and pat it on your face just so. I didn't read the label before applying it, but the one I tried is called "I Need to Be Firm." I normally don't worry about my skin looking firm, but it was interesting to experiment.

The mask is designed to boost collagen, and I think that it does give you a touch of that Hollywood red carpet glow without going to a spa. After leaving the mask on for 20 minutes, my skin felt slightly firmer and more plump. The mask's ingredients include sodium hyaluronate (which can help skin appear smoother) and witch hazel (shrinks pores), as well as cucumber extract and algae extract.

If you are the type of gal who often runs from work to a date, you could stash these in your desk (right next to the Luna bars!).

The Great Escape: An Easy Vacation Beauty Routine

When you are a product junkie, editing your beauty routine for traveling is sort of like a Rubik's cube. Downsizing has its appeal when you are like me though and have more lipsticks than fingers and toes!

Here are my picks for going on a trip and Zen-ing out your toiletries bag:

MAKEUP

LIPS: One lipstick can work three ways: a lip stain, a regular lipstick and blush in a pinch. Eyeshadow Government loves Laura Mercier's new Bing Cherry lipstick ($22). For a more casual, beachy look, apply this hydrating lipstick to just your top lip and press your lips together for a pretty "lip stain." Then, blot with a tissue.

CLEANSE: Wash up after strolling the alleys of a remote village or exploring a dusty country road. If you don't have a regular facial cleanser in your bathroom, try out One Love Organics Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser ($29). Golly, it's hot today! On a positive note, I managed to save my silk dress from near-destruction amid chance showers this afternoon. Phew!

If you are a city girl who likes to wear silk finery this time of year, I recommend toting along an alternative dress or a raincoat and umbrella when you do. A casual jersey frock that can fold into your purse is a good last-minute outfit and if you observe gathering rainclouds, it is most definitely time to change.

Traveling by cab isn't entirely a solution. Even standing on the sidewalk to hail a taxi was something of an ordeal this afternoon, and ultimately, I had to duck into a restaurant and wait until the sudden shower let up.

Hello darlings,

Inspire a starry romance with glittering, silver eyes. This is an easy, four-step beauty look, perfect for sharing secret glances with your latest crush and causing a flutter wherever you go.

1. Grab Dior's Gris Gris 5-Colour Eyeshadow palette ($58) and dip an eyeshadow brush into the silvery-blue shade on the top left. Apply the shadow across your eyelids, stopping at the crease.

2. Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder ($49) is shaping up to be one of this summer's hottest makeup picks. The shades in this range complement nearly every complexion. Although I'm quite fair, I use a pinch of the deep brown shade (#5) and it makes me look totally fab. Just brush the color across your cheekbones for a healthy, becoming blush.

Of course, I always say I am super-picky. Rest assured these shades are a) not too orange-y and b) not a dull brown (makeup that makes you look dusty is a no-no-no-no, XOX).

3. Slide on a neutral pink lipstick, such as Laura Mercier Crème Lip Color in Rose ($22). This is an easy, go-anywhere shade.

4. Finish with your favorite mascara. Mine is currently YSL Mascara Singulier in Deep Violet ($30), which makes eyelashes appear thick and soft as velvet.

Manicure Monday: Layla Graffiti Effect Top Coat Polish in Gold

My nails remind me of a beautiful Japanese lacquered box today. I was wearing a very true red nail polish and I just added Layla Graffiti Effect Top Coat polish in Gold to the tips. The result is a chic two-tone nail look.

Do you like it? The golden polish leaves a "crackled" glaze, which I personally love.

Treat your lipstick collection like a painter's palette.

Any gal who has gone shopping for lipstick knows that sometimes the color you thought was so "right" is sometimes quite "wrong." But is any shade of lipstick really "wrong"?

All lipsticks are in fact just colors and textures you can play with, so be original! If you bought a lipstick recently and you don't like the color solo, just pull out some other lipsticks (perhaps, shades you use regularly) and mix them together until you reach a pleasing and flattering combination.

It can take a few tries to create a harmonious shade, but you might just be blown away by the results.

Lately, I like blending pink lipsticks with orange undertones to create gorgeous, warm lip colors. (Honestly, the shades I use I thought would never look good on me but haha, I look more "meow" than ever.)

Caudalie Fleur de Vigne

If you are searching for a lovely addition to your perfume collection, look no further. Caudalie Fleur de Vigne ($36) is ideal. The scent of delicate, romantic white rose mingles freely with refreshing grapefruit and hawthorn touch. This dewy floral fragrance seems sentimental, but not excessively so.

Caudalie Zeste de Vigne

Zeste de Vigne opens with a bold, citrus note. It's really such a treat and reminds me of eating fresh mandarin oranges on Sunday at the farmer's market. When I was younger and lived in San Rafael, a suburban town in Northern California, I often went to the outdoor market next to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Civic Center and we would eat ripe fruits from the farmers set out on paper plates and trays. This perfume's complementary note of bergamot creates a relaxing atmosphere as well.

Certainly, if you like Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarin-Basilic, you will really enjoy Caudalie's Zeste de Vigne. I adore this cheerful and splashy perfume, and love starting my day off right with just a few dabs.

Caudalie Thé des Vignes

One of my favorite new perfumes is Thé des Vignes. Notes of white musk, neroli and ginger form an intimate trio. Inspired by the fields of Bordeaux, at times, it smells like the skin of wet grapes. This scent is both introspective and reflective. If you enjoy wearing, say, a vintage ivory silk shantung blazer or one of this season's top trends, a long flowing dress, the scent adapts easily to your style and mood. Also, while I find this perfume to be feminine, perhaps an open-minded man could wear it too? I think it can dress up jeans and a t-shirt without too much fuss.

The Thé des Vignes scent was created by the master perfumer Jacques Cavallier, who is also the man behind Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey perfume. L'Eau d'Issey was a fragrance we kept around my house growing up, and always showcased a unique, modern sensibility. My mother rarely wore perfume, but I remember pulling L'Eau d'Issey out of the cabinet in the vanity area to enjoy on my own.

I like the way Caudalie has described this scent. Mathilde Thomas, the co-founder of Caudalie, says, "Thé des Vignes is inspired by that secretive moment at dusk, the warm sunlight flares in the horizon while the scent of my family's vineyard deepen into musk and suspend into a caress of ginger and neroli." Thomas makes life in the countryside sound so perfect.

I totally cherish my new Priti NYC nail polishes. The Silver Flare Peony shade is an intense hot pink and Sky Waltz Delphinium is the color of the sky on a beautiful day. This afternoon, I painted my nails pink and added blue hearts because I wanted to use both shades. Crafty, right? Better yet, all Priti nail polishes are very girl-friendly, so they don't have formaldehyde, dibutyl phathalate, camphor, or toluene. (This means that you can do your nails on the kitchen table without leaving a chemical smell. Rock.)

In the summertime, pouting is much more fun. The Fusion Beauty Lip Fusion conditioning stick with SPF 15 makes lips appear plumper and feel softer. It's true. I use the conditioning stick in the Butterscotch color which matches the color of my lips exactly. Buy it, stash it, do not give it away.

Street Trends: Hello There Nude Eyewear and Dreamy Denim Vests

The latest summer trends are so cool and so you. These are two looks I have noticed in Williamsburg, my neighborhood.

It doesn't take a lot of bravery to show some skin these days. Hello, pop stars! But wearing skin-like eyewear is much more fun. I saw one girl wearing nude sunglasses that were almost identical to this pair from Forever 21 (see below), and another wearing pale beige eyeglasses with a flowery outfit.

If you have been wearing cute vintage 90s rompers, maybe you are my neighbor but maybe you need a new vest too. I'm very happy that denim vests are making a comeback. Whether you are skinny or curvy, they add a certain zing to many outfits. This vest, sold by Free People, says "great" to me. You also can look around at thrift shops or Etsy for a non-$200 vest. (Not to restate the obvious. XOX.)

What's In My Makeup Bag: TheBalm Hot Mama!, Topshop Rock Chick Eye Crayon, and Neosporin

Ahhh, I thought I could act as if all the products I use are kept in one makeup bag in a purse. But I have to admit, my beauty products flow like the Amazon through my entire apartment. In my home, you could be ambushed by a spear-shaped mascara brush, attacked by extremely bright lipsticks, go for a dip in my eye makeup remover lake, or use your binoculars to watch some exotic birds (my lovely roommates).

Some days, we have to wrestle a grizzly bear and by that I mean, nimbly open a container of $175 Scandinavian eye cream. Life is hard. (Make it less so!)

Here are products I am using that freely float from my medicine cabinet to my purse to my face:

1. TheBalm Hot Mama! blush leaves cheeks pink and shimmery. I love, love, love this blush, which is only $19 at Sephora and should last all summer long. As I said, the blush is shiny, which makes me feel like it might be better for more informal occasions like a date or spending time with friends. My life is pretty laidback lately, so I wear it everywhere.

Also, you can dab some on your eyelids too.

2. Topshop Crayon in Rock Chick ($10) will make you feel edgier, tougher and sexier. This eyeliner goes on thick, giving you an "instant" smoky eye. Also, the plum color doesn't scream purple. It's just very pretty. If you buy any Topshop makeup product, get this one!

3. In hot and sticky weather, I crave toner. Earth Science Aloe Vera Complexion toner ($9, Whole Foods) cleans skin thoroughly and leaves you feeling fresher than ever. The alcohol-free formulation also contains moisturizing hyaluronic acid and soothing calendula extract.

4. My Chanel Aqualumiere lipstick in Lipari is an oldie but goodie from the Cote d'Azur Summer 2009 collection. I wore this sheer, glossy lipstick just the other day. Chanel no longer sells this lipstick, but you can find anything you truly want on the internet.

5. Neosporin. Weird, right? You should use this on your face, like, only if you get extractions at a spa. My new aesthetician in Williamsburg advised applying a light amount of Neosporin for three nights in a row after her facial. I am not really into going off the beaten track when it comes to my face, but I went with it and I'm so, so glad I listened to her. The ointment helps reduce inflammation and speed the healing process after a facial.

Project Time: Make Pillows That Match Your Designer Clothing

I was checking out Mood Fabrics online today and felt the need to share my favorite textiles. Sharing is caring!

Does this bright Marc Jacobs print (#1) look familiar? If you keep a close eye on Marc Jacobs, you probably have spotted this fabric used in his splendid dresses and tops.

Aaaand if you bought one of those delightful, electric-colored paisley Marc Jacobs items, wouldn't you like some more of those eye-popping, retro cool patterns in your life? Like, wouldn't it be fun if your pillows, sheets or curtains matched your dress? Why, yes it sure would be great. Mood Fabrics sells this hot pink Marc Jacobs silk twill pattern by the yard.

2. Marc Jacobs purple and off-white crepe de chine.

All you need is a sewing machine, a simple square pillow insert and the right amount of fabric. The cost is $25/yard and up for all the textiles I picked for this article, so you might want to go with one or two smaller pillows or...like ten doll-sized pillows in a row. It's easy to stitch up a basic square pillow cover in no time at all. You will use a yard of fabric to fit a basic 14"x14" pillow. Then, you can follow this easy tutorial on Readymade to make the pillow cover. Or if you are an experienced seamstress, you can probably handle this project with your eyes closed.

Not satisfied with just one designer fabric? I hear ya, fashionistas. Add a spring to your step with this pretty Oscar de la Renta silk (#3), which would be beautiful for a valance. Or if you have a vintage suitcase around your house, you could line it with this fabric to make an enviable Picnic Suitcase!

3. Oscar de la Renta warm lavender and cream silk fabric.

If pink and lavender are not your thing, well, that would be sad. But there are other options. Mood Fabrics also sells this darker, sophisticated brocade by Carolina Herrera (#4). You could pick some up to create becoming fabric-topped boxes or even reupholster a stool.

Yum + Hearts to You + Nail Polish Smackdown

Hello darlings,

Do you ever get the urge to eat almond cookies instead of writing? I am covered in crumbs while wearing a very professional-looking jacket and I owe you 1,000 updates on life, makeup, skincare products, and other nonsense.

The Government would like to issue a formal decree though. Eyeshadow Government encourages you to express yourself to the fullest, but in the Battle of Grey Nail Polish vs. Blue Nail Polish, grey nail polish has won. I am wearing Essie nail polish in Chinchilly ($8) around the clock, and perhaps you are too? It's so au courant and feminine and fresh.

Blue nail polish often makes Eyeshadow Government feel slightly ill and consumptive, unless the shade is an aquatic, pool-like color. I adore a light blue polish too and encourage you to embrace your inner Esther Williams. Meanwhile, the dark blue nail polish can be quite Hot Topic, especially in metallic (I grimace as I type), which is not very "moi." Perhaps it boils down to the fact that if you're going to be a rebel, you're going to need more than ugly nail polish to convince me. You will have to scratch me first!

Sweet Stuff + A Delightful Time at Duane Reade

I am on a healthy eating kick that includes the most delicious desserts in the world too. Like, maybe I will eat kale and toast and drink green tea with soy milk for breakfast. (Gross, right? I knoooow.) By mid-afternoon though, I might eat a cupcake.

The cupcakes I am talking about are from Butter Lane in Park Slope. So far I have "tested" the Key Lime cupcake (sprinkled with candied lime, yay!) and the Chocolate Sea Salt cupcake. The cake part for both kinds was vanilla. Yesterday and today were very good for me in the category of yumminess. Make sure to eat dessert and often.

On to makeup chatter!

While strolling around the Prince Street stop today, I popped into one of those revved up Duane Reades to buy a notebook. Half the people in line were, like, male models though, and the selection of paper goods was frankly disparaging. (I was about to say male models don't need to write things down, but then how can they remember anything without pens and paper? Are male models the new supercomputers? Dunno.) Meanwhile, the cosmetics options were plentiful and overflowing.

I tried on Becca Luminous Skin Colour tinted moisturizer in Sand ($42), which I liked, thinking that would be the end of my thwarted attempt to buy a new notebook at Duane Reade. But soon I was trying on other products. In a neighboring aisle, the Pür Minerals line caught my eye. Some of the blushes are shaped like bits of fruity pebbles cereal and come in the prettiest shades. I chose two solid blushes, blending one layer of Pür Minerals Copper Sienna blush ($16) across my cheekbones and then dabbing on a bit of the pink Roselite shade as well. Both shades work well solo, but I prefer them blended together. Not yet satisfied with my experimenting, I also dabbed on a touch of the Pür Minerals See No More pore minimizer serum ($23). The serum worked pretty well for a first try. Or at least, I felt my skin tighten a bit immediately.

I may return to have my skin analyzed by a computer that was recently installed in this Duane Reade, but I was pressed for time. Perhaps if I can catch one of those male models in line with a butterfly net, we can brave the great computer and discuss beauty products together...forever.

I had a lovely trip to the Sabon store across the street from Bloomingdale's today. If you spend all day typing, it's nice to treat your fingers to decadent beauty products. Also, there are always plenty of ways to relax and pamper yourself at home. For example, a light bulb went off in my head two days ago, and I tried using my Pure Life Soap Co. Volcanic Clay Facial Scrub ($10) as a body treatment. Although this scrub looks a bit like dirt, I bravely applied the mixture to my torso, legs and arms. The volcanic clay helped draw out toxins beneath the skin's surface, and left me feeling shiny and new. Another favorite product for relaxing at home is Mandy Aftel's Aftelier Perfumes Forest Flower bath oil (link to my rave review).

DISCO FEVER

Should you wish to appear enthralling, you must wear copper eye liner this weekend. Catch this trend while you can! Channel your Parisian alter-ego circa 1979! And in the meantime, if you took my advice and bought the Smashbox Softbox Eye Shadow Palette, this set has an excellent copper cream liner. If you prefer to use a pencil version, try Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Bronze #10L or Hello Kitty Glittercute Eyeliner in Teapot (penny-colored + glittery).

Apply the eye liner above your upper lashes, and then line the inner part of your lower lashes too. Finish the look with jet black mascara and a rich burgundy lip.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner Review

New Aqua eyeliners at The Makeup Show New York.

One must-have beauty item for making a splash this summer is a vibrant Aqua Eyes eyeliner from Make Up For Ever. Your eyeliner is your sword, ladies. (Some girls think they don't need schmancy beauty products, but eyeliner is surely enriching. If you have any doubts about its utility in matters of love and seduction, one need only whisper the names Elizabeth Taylor and Sofia Loren.)

The Aqua Eyes eyeliners are all fun and colorful, but the best part is that they won't budge. (I tested them at the Makeup Show New York.) I applied many of the eyeliner shades on my hand and then, tried washing the color off with Softsoap. They didn't move, streak or fade. Then, I took a shower. Still, basically the same. After tons of washing and scrubbing, the strength of the brilliant colors hardly diminished.

Definitely!

So before you take a dip in a pool, sweep on one of these eyeliners in Turquoise or Pistachio. And if you are really beachy and glam, you could invest in a different shade to match each of your swimsuits.

Hi darlings,

As you know, I have been flirting with a makeup-less lifestyle. For me, it's weird switching between wearing a lot of makeup and none, although many women do it all the time. After relying on heaps of makeup for years, I feel almost like a peasant when I skip foundation or mineral powder. The bare look is also a little "hippie" (not my favorite word unless we are talking about Joni Mitchell or a trip to Marrakech).

So...in some ways, I feel invisible without my makeup, which is kind of weird but also makes sense. Do you think Kim Kardashian could barrel on with such gusto without that eyeliner? I think not. Makeup is just part of my identity.

Still, I discovered that when I skip tons of foundation, I am hardly anonymous. My adoring public (they know who they are, LOL) is still very friendly.

CHEAT SHEET

If you typically wear liquid cover-up and are thinking about going for an au naturel look, you can start by wearing a touch of bronzer instead (especially if you haven't been outside that much this spring) and a sheer lipstick.

I quite like the Bronze-buki Brush by Too Faced. Bronzer in a solid compact form can very quickly appear too heavy (super-yikes!). This amazing all-in-one kabuki brush does the thinking for you, and releases just a little bit of bronzer powder at a time. The result is a healthy, sheer tan that no one would ever know is fake.

Is it me, or does Stella McCartney just get better and better? I would wear this sumptuous ensemble with a touch of Diptyque Do Son eau de toilette ($120, Space NK). Do Son is a luxurious floral perfume that starts out quite headstrong, in a wonderful way really. And as it settles on the skin, the fragrance becomes quite delicate, innocent and almost naïve. Allure E-mail to Beauty Bloggers Crossed the Line

Controversy! I just received an e-mail at 1:52 PM today from Allure's marketing department apologizing for a prior e-mail from an "advertising intern."

My guess is that Allure was uncomfortable with e-mails distributed in early and mid-April (at least, that's when I received e-mails from Allure in my inbox) inviting beauty bloggers to participate in a product sample program with a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The April messages indicated Allure would send me beauty products but if I didn't like the stuff, as a favor I should just keep my opinion to myself.

I felt that this request was "non-traditional" (hmmm) and never responded to the invitation. Talk about strings attached!

Are New Yorkers Too Hair-Obsessed? And My Little Black Book to the Rescue

On Monday, the New York Times published an article about a rash of "hair extension" thieves. This doesn't surprise me in the least because wherever I go, hair is the topic du jour.

I admit the world I live in is a little strange and perhaps I have selective hearing. A week ago on Bedford, I saw a man talking into his cell phone about which gel he liked to use. He didn't want any products with alcohol in them. I recently overheard two young women comparing hairdressers next to me on the subway, and learned one had paid more than $400 for a visit to Miss Jessie's. Across New York, I am overhearing men and women alike comparing stylists, hairstyles and products. You would think we would be too embarrassed to display our narcissism, but nope! I myself have spent hours trading notes with my roommates on potential hairdressers, and their respective pluses and minuses.

It is c-r-a-z-y. Vanity has its limits. In California, I don't know a single person who pays more than $100 for a basic haircut. In New York, this is the norm and when you try to cut corners on beauty services, you could end up with the worst dye job of your life or...like... dead.

But I will unearth one address from my little black book. If you need a simple and cheap haircut, I recommend going to Thai New York Spa in Queens. Just ask for 'em to cut straight across, no layers. The price is only $20 for a haircut and Bee is hot.

Product Reviews: KeratinPerfect Shampoo and Hair Oil

KeratinPerfect products have just launched at Sephora and if you have hair on your head, you may want to pay mighty close attention.

My coiffure is on a roll. Whether you crave a sleek hairdo or just want to tame mid-day frizz, there's something for everyone in the KeratinPerfect line.

Right now, I use two products by this brand regularly:

PerfectCleanse Keratin Enhanced Shampoo ($24, Sephora) super-charges my hairdo, making it appear thicker, healthier and shinier. It's hard to describe, but I feel like this shampoo is the equivalent of pumping iron for your locks. The product strengthens each strand and tames frizz.

I can actually feel the difference as soon as I use the shampoo, and see a difference when I am out of the shower. My hair is always smoother after using this product.

Cool, right?

The second product I heart is the KeratinPerfect PerfectShine Keratin Oil ($40, Sephora).

Expect positive feedback. If people don't say you look great when you use this hair-taming oil, you don't have the right friends. Certainly, mine do.

On days that I skip the KeratinPerfect shampoo, my hair can be a thorny, fuzzy, frizzy, tangled, rambunctious thing. Now, I just rub a few drops of this oil in my hands, apply to my dry hair, brush, twirl and gloat.

I adore my suddenly well-groomed tresses.

Also, the centerpiece of the KeratinPerfect line is a Brazilian Hair Smoothing System. I haven't tried KeratinPerfect's main smoothing treatment, called ThePerfector, yet because I'm keeping my natural waves. But so, so many of you want straighter hair!

My friend Lisa at Beauty by Benz tried ThePerfector and posted the fab results on her blog. Before, her hair appeared cute and curly. After, her hair appeared hot and Jessica Rabbit smooth! Also, most importantly, ThePerfector is formaldyhyde-free, as are all the the products in the line.

Beauty Math: Layering Skincare and Makeup Products

Hey gals,

Today, I thought I would share with you how I "layer" great skincare and makeup products to increase their effectiveness. What can you wear under sunblock? How do you boost your lipstick? How do you make a customized shade of blush? Eyeshadow Government has the scoop!

(Many of these products I have mentioned before, but I thought it would be helpful for you to know how to incorporate them into a full-blown, beauty addict's regimen.)

1. Serum + Oil/Lotion + Sunblock = Yay

After washing your face in the morning, apply Jurlique Herbal Recovery gel, which contains botanicals that work to improve evenness and give your skin a natural glow.

Next, apply a lotion that works on your skin type. If your skin is naturally dry, you can use natural jojoba oil or Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil. If your skin is breakout-prone, try Vichy Normaderm Anti-Acne Hydrating Lotion or Dr. Brandt Blemishes No More Hydrating Lotion.

Then, apply a non-codomogenic sunblock, such as Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock.

2. Your Favorite Lipstick + Too Faced Glamour Gloss = Smooch

Lately, I adore layering Too Faced Glamour Gloss in This Is Pretty over my favorite lipsticks. (Specifically, I wear this lip gloss over Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle and Lipstick Queen in Jean Queen.) After it's on, you might notice that your lips appear fuller and shinier. And it tingles!

Also, adding this gloss is a great way to experiment with lipsticks that are matte or a little dry.

3. This Blush + That Blush = Hooray

You may already have your favorite blush in your makeup bag. (Everyone should have at least one.) But if you apply blushes lightly with a brush or cotton ball, you can create your own customized shade. I have started mixing cheek blushes and bronzer recently and love the results.

For example, Beauty Is Life Multi-Touch Powder in Balina looks great alone. It's a shimmery blush/bronzer, and they sell it at Barneys. But you can mix it with many pink shades or bronzers too.

Tip: Dab color on cheekbones and blend thoroughly.

Rihanna to Wear Bunny Mask Designed by Alexis Bittar

Lady Gaga in an Alexis Bittar mask via Formichetti's Blog

Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar, whose fans include both Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga, is helping yet another pop star transform her look. At a special breakfast to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Lucite in New York, Bittar announced he was designing a "bunny" mask for Rihanna's tour.

When pressed for details, Bittar said, "We're just finalizing the design with her stylist Mel Ottenberg." He couldn't share any more information.

Is Rihanna trying to be more like Lady Gaga? Gaga has worn various pieces by Bittar in the past. In any case, his mask is sure to be a hit with Rihanna's fans.

Bittar is the King of Lucite and a brilliant fellow. But will the mask have ears? And will the ears be perky or floppy? It's anyone's guess.

Interview With Jessica Buchanan of 1000 Flowers

Eyeshadow Government is pleased to publish this interview with Canadian perfumer Jessica Buchanan of 1000 Flowers on the day of her announcement of a new perfume, Fleur No. 1.

Her Reglisse Noire perfume has elicited a rapturous response across the blogosphere. Buchanan plans to move from Canada to Grasse, France where she will participate in a new incubator program Pépinière d’Entreprises InnovaGrass for perfumers and cosmetics makers. 1000 Flowers is the first perfume company to be accepted to this program.

It was divine speaking with one of the most imaginative figures in the independent scent world.

Is the town of Nelson, where you live now, very remote?

It's about a nine hours drive to Vancouver, but quite a bustling, little town. There's an arts school, a school of Chinese medicine and a fine woodworking program. People are very interested in the arts, health and progressive thinking and, at the time I moved here, I was looking for a place like that to put down roots and start a small business.

And now will you be moving to France permanently to grow your perfume business?

I have been accepted into a business incubator in Grasse, and so I will be moving on August 1st on a three-year visa. My office will be in the old Roure factory, in the warehouse where the process of enfleurage used to take place. Enfluerage is the old technique of using wood-framed glass trays layered with animal fat, with successive batches of fresh flowers, such as tuberose and jasmine, placed by hand in the fat for extraction of the fragrance.

Can you describe Fleur No. 1, your newest scent?

It is a green floral, full of the precious floral absolutes such as rose and jasmine, narcissus, and osmanthus. There are notes of violet and wet spring forests, mosses, and green baby leaves. It's based on a chypre/oriental base with notes such as opoponax, oakmoss and labdanum. It's a full floral, but at the same time, it's simple and green and reminiscent of Spring. I'm dedicating this fragrance to my mother.

Where will the perfume be available?

I will be launching it here in Nelson on May 5th.

Is your mother alive?

She is alive. She is well. She lives in Saskatchewan with her husband, and they have always lived quite close to the land. They live off the grid with solar power, in a home that they built from wood that they milled from their own property.

She's been so incredibly supportive and nurturing throughout my life. I began this path when I was a very small child. Herbal medicine was my first obsession when I was 8, 9, 10 years old and I was constantly collecting and drying wild plants from the woods and creating remedies for my family. She really nurtured that interest, and that eventually developed into my career in aromatherapy and then, perfumery as an art form.

Reglisse Noire means black licorice in English. Tell us a little about this scent.

I wanted to create a fragrance that was something that was recognizable and familiar that could symbolize connection between opposites. My background was natural perfumery, but in Grasse I was learning about modern perfumery, which includes man-made chemicals. I was inspired to find a way to balance those two worlds- of my natural and traditional roots with the high-tech, modern raw materials that we were learning about. At the time, I coming to terms with the fact that some of these synthetic raw materials were actually amazing, and so I really wanted to find a balance between these two elements that I perceived as opposites.

Why did you choose to create a licorice scent as opposed to a more traditional floral?

I chose licorice because I wanted to explore something that had personal meaning to me. And it was connected with my grandmother. When I was growing up, she always had licorice allsorts, the candy. And I wasn't really allowed to have candy when I was little. Occasionally, I was permitted to have one and it was a real treat, and so that association was the starting point for this fragrance. Maybe because those candies are a little old-fashioned, I see it as part of the balancing of tradition and modernity.

Was this when you were very young? And where were you?

That was on Salt Spring Island, and I was between the ages of 1 and 6 and throughout my life, she always had them. Through my teens as well. But I think my most fond memories were between the ages of 1 and 6.

Some of the notes in Reglisse Noire are ozone and shiso. For a normal reader, does that mean that it smells like the air?

Yes, it does have that crisp fresh scent. Ozone can be generated by moving water. It's negative ions. I think with an ozone generator, there is an ozone smell that you can detect. But what I'm associating it with is that scent near the beach, without it being a marine note. Shiso leaf is an aldehydic note, and rather intense to smell on its own!

I have read many descriptions of what your scent smells like from the opening note to the end, but what does Reglisse Noire smell like to you?

It depends on the person, right of course? (I'm just going to spray some right now, actually.) Right away, of course, it's licorice. It really has the character of black licorice. Even though it is an interpretation, it's not a candy fragrance. It's not sugary. It opens with citrus notes and white pepper, and there is bergamot. I hear from some people that they find a floral note in the top. And it's not something that I list as a note, but there is a light white pale jasmine in this fragrance. It's hidden inside and not everyone finds it.

As it warms on the skin, we move into the spices. It's got warm, earthy cocoa and spices in the heart, and this is where the concept of the perfume really develops for me. The high-tech notes are a little bit more in the top and the bottom, whereas the middle holds the heart of the fragrance, which is the where the opposites find their balance with each other and attain warmth and harmony. It's star anise, it's ginger, it's all-spice and cocoa. Once it develops a bit more on the skin, one moves into woods, into the cedarwood and the patchouli, and vetiver, quite a lot of vetiver actually, and finally into the musk.

This musk is one of the 'high-tech' notes in the 'soul' or bottom of the formula- a raw material called Exaltolide.

What attracts you to this note?

It's a beautiful note. It's a solid, clear crystalline material when at room temperature, which I find quite lovely. But most importantly, it's a nature-identical musk, being that it exists in natural musk. And it's what is termed macrocyclic, which means that it's biodegradable and it doesn't accumulate in the environment. I find materials like these very interesting.

What are perfumers like?

I think that perfumers can be quite introspective. There's a lot of contemplation that is involved. Before I sit down with raw materials, I'm thinking for months and months, allowing the fragrance to germinate in my mind. There is a certain amount of loneliness involved in being a perfumer, and you have to be fine with that. It's a very solo work, so in that sense it could be like writing. Creating a fragrance, for me, is a meditative process.

If somebody wanted to acquire your perfume, where would be the best places for them to go?

They can go to Scent Bar in Los Angeles, and they can also order from the store's website, Indiescents.com. You can also order from my website which is 1000flowers.ca. I haven't announced this yet, but I just begun selling to a new client in Munich, Germany. The store is a beautiful boutique in the center of Munich called Sundhaft.

Did you miss me?

Yesterday was my birthday, and I wanted to take the day to enjoy myself. I am back to writing today and so happy to talk to all of you. I have a short story coming out in an anthology in September and although I don't know the exact title of the book yet, needless to say, I am thrilled to have my writing appear in a book (again).

Also, I have been eating my way through Williamsburg, and so I think you might enjoy doing as I do, and eating at Lighthouse and Traif. To be honest, it would be pretty hard to get fat at either of these fashionable restaurants. The "big" salad at Lighthouse was just medium-sized. My entree at Traif had, uh, four scallops. Totally yum though. Adore the new spots!

My stream of free beauty products continues, but you know what I"m kind of excited about...products no one knows about..SECRETS! One new perfume I am keeping under wraps until tomorrow, but the other product I can tell you about today.

Beauty brand skinnyskinny is going to launch an organic face serum very soon. I haven't tried it yet myself, but the company owner Clara Williams uses the serum and every time I see Clara inside her shop in Williamsburg, she is drop-dead gorgeous. There are plenty of cute gals around, but Clara has some of the "best" skin in the neighborhood. Her face glows like an angel.

She told me yesterday that she hopes to launch the serum in a few weeks. In the meantime, she is very busy shipping boxes and boxes of her amazing fancy, fragrant dry shampoo. It's always cool visiting the skinnyskinny store on 129 Roebling Street because her shop perfumes the whole block.

Spring For It: A Beauty Expert's Shopping List

Some people shop for bread and Windex. I shop for makeup. These lipsticks, perfumes and eyeshadows are all wonderfully delicious and extremely satisfying. XOX.

1. What's too much fun? Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy lip balm ($30, YSLBeautyUS.com) in shades like Mouthwatering Berry and Succulent Pomegranate. The formula is sheer with a touch of glitter. I love the concept of a youthful sheer lipstick in a more grown-up lipstick case. So deluxe! So magnifique!

2. Did anyone else notice that Sephora.com has begun selling Acqua di Parma products? Click, click, click, click, click! I adore the Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile Eau de Parfum. Such a heavenly scent. It may not be for a lady on a budget, but it is absolutely for a lady who loves beautiful things. Invest in a bottle "for a special occasion" and then wear it every day anyway.

3. Smashbox Soft Box Eye Palette ($48, Ulta). This is such a no-brainer. I order you to buy this. A gal can create dozens of gorgeous eye looks with this kit. The set contains a small tube of Photo Finish Lid Primer, nine eye shadows, two cream liners, brushes and a booklet. For going out this past weekend, I wore Flirt (a shimmery silver) alone. I had to tame my tendency to heap on makeup because the shades are intensely pigmented. (FYI amigas, those little rectangles pack a powerful punch.) Of course, if you go too far, just smudge a bit off with tissue.

How To Get Kate's Royal Wedding Hairdo

Bumble and bumble stylist Britney Williams breaks it down.

"Kate Middleton’s down ‘do looked gorgeous, elegant enough for her big day but true to her personal style," said Britney.

1. Start by applying a root lifting spray like Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray all over damp hair. Blow dry with a round brush for a smooth foundation with volume and a bit of bend.

2. Use a 1-inch curling iron to add wave by working around the head in sections with the same width as the barrel of the curling iron.

3. After the curls have cooled for a minute or two, use a flat brush to loosen and soften them into flowing waves.

4. To enhance the definition of the waves, spray a bit of Shine On Finishing Spray ($25) on hands and gently work through the hair.

5. Pull back the hair from the sides of the head and secure with bobby pins. Finish with a healthy spritz of Spray de Mode ($26) to give flexible hold that will last through the day without making hair crunchy."

Also, I am a little sentimental about her bouquet, so here are the details. Lily-of-the-valley symbolizes a return of happiness. Sweet William symbolizes gallantry. Hyacinth symbolizes constancy of love. Ivy symbolizes fidelity, marriage, wedded love, friendship and affection. Myrtle is the emblem of marriage and love.

Kate Middleton is wearing a wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Middleton is walking down the aisle now.

If you care for more details, the "lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace" according to the royal wedding site.

Her Majesty The Queen's Outfit

The Queen is wearing an Angela Kelly crepe wool dress with hand-sewn beading at the neck in the shape of sunrays. In addition, she is wearing a double crepe wool tailored primrose coat.

She also has on an Angela Kelly-designed matching crepe hat.

For jewelry, she is wearing a Mary’s True Lovers Knot brooch.

1. It is socially acceptable to wear a skirt that reveals your knee as long as you wear an enormous hat.

2. Women who don't wear amazing hats are fools.

3. Smile for the cameras in a skirt suit.

4. The flower girls in white are so darling.

5. Silhouettes generally tend to be all over the place, but not as unpredictable as those huge structures inside the Abbey.

6. If you dress like Daphne Guinness but are not Daphne, it might be tough to pull off a bizarre hat. Nuttiest wedding ever!

As of 4:56 AM ET: people I have never heard of and celebrities are arriving at the Abbey. But the unofficial must-have wedding attire is funky hats. Madness! (UPDATE: Many of the hats were by Stephen Jones.) Women in uglier hats by boring designers too. A lot of great ones though.

As of 5:05 AM ET, Official Statement: "Mrs. Carole Middleton is wearing a sky blue wool crepe coatdress with matching satin piping and passementerie at the waist and cuff over a sky blue silk shantung ‘Sydney’ day dress with short pleated sleeves and pleated pockets. The dress and coatdress are by Catherine Walker. Mrs. Middleton’s hat is by Berkshire-based Jane Corbett."

In the meantime, I'll place my bets on Kate Middleton. She is such a pretty pony.

Will Cranston be the other
"lucky lady" at the Royal wedding?

What designer will she wear to her wedding? Here are my thoughts...

1. I am going to guess that Kate Middleton has opted for a relatively unknown designer. This leaves my top pick in a muddle, but a frontrunner among the "dark horses" is Sophie Cranston. Historically, Middleton tends to be attracted to dresses that flatter her figure, not top tier fashion brands. As you know, this makes me nervous and also frustratingly makes the #1 guess a free-for-all instead of an "educated guess." Kate doesn't really go in for lots of embellishments, but perhaps for her wedding day, she will do an about face and have some lovely lace or pearl details. I hope so! Middleton is similar to Michelle Obama. She doesn't slavishly follow trends, but she is aware of them. She probably has some ideas of her own of how she wants the dress to look, and would want a designer who "agrees" with her too. Cranston looks perfectly agreeable in photographs.

2. If she has a "fashion awakening," she will pick Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. My gut tells me that Sarah Burton can rein in the ghoulish, morbid side of her fashion designs, and deliver a dazzling softer, statement piece.

3. Bruce Oldfield also says it's not him, but maybe it is? Many designers are terribly imaginative, and lying requires creativity.

4. Vera Wang. Not British, but good.

5. If she chooses a design by a house like Issa, just shoot me.

Now don't you want a slice of Paul Smith's royal wedding cake?
